Overview
The IBM Storwize V5010E and V5030E models have been renamed and incorporated into the IBM FlashSystem 5000 family which includes Machine Types 2072 and 4680. All models have the same functional equivalency and support the same drives listed here. Please note that, effective January 14, 2023, IBM has withdrawn these products from production and marketing and are no longer available as new. See the Hardware Withdrawal Notice for more information. The IBM drives listed here are IBM Certified drives with a standard (1) Year Warranty. An extended (3) Year Warranty is optional.
These systems support various different types of drives and drive classes. The IBM FlashSystems 5010 5015 5030 5035 5045 and Storwize V5010E and V5030E model Controller and Expansion enclosures are shown below.
2U12 Enclosures: 2072-212/312/T12/2H2/2N2/3H2/3N2, 2072-E12/12F/12G, 4680-24H
2U24 Enclosures: 2072-224/324/2H4/2N4/3H4/3N4, 2072-E24/24F/24G, 4680-24H
5U92Enclosures: 2072-92F/F92/92G, 4680-92G/H
These enclosures support the following tiers of drives:
Enterprise disks are disk drives that are optimized for performance.
Nearline disks are disk drives that are optimized for capacity.
Tier 1 flash drives are lower-cost flash drives, typically with larger capacities, but slightly lower performance and write endurance characteristics. The system monitors their wear level and issues warnings when the drive is nearing replacement.
Tier 0 flash drives are high-performance flash drives that process read and write operations and provide faster access to data than Enterprise or nearline drives. For most Tier 0 flash drives, the system monitors their wear level and issues warnings when the drive is nearing replacement. Some NVMe-attached drives, such as IBM FlashCore® Module drives, are considered Tier 0 flash drives.
Storage Class Memory Storage Class Memory drives use persistent memory technologies that improve endurance and reduce latency of current flash storage device technologies. All SCM drives use NVMe architecture.

Important IBM FlashSystems 5010, 5015, 5030, 5035, 5045 and Storwize V5010E 5030E Notes and Restrictions:
- All drives are dual-port and hot-swappable. All drives can be intermixed within the enclosure they are designed for. LFF and SFF expansion enclosures can be intermixed behind the SFF control enclosure.
-When a drive is moved between drive slots, the drive ID is maintained unless its Use property is changed to Unused. In the command line interface, the use parameter, which is specified on the chdrive command, determines if the drive can be formed into an array. To display information about the drives in the command-line interface, use the lsdrive command.
- FlashSystem 5100 Systems can be added into existing Storwize V5000 clustered systems that include previous generation Storwize V5000 Gen1 systems. All systems within a cluster must be using the same version of Storwize V5000 software. Minimum revision is 8.2.1. Not supported with revision 8.5.0.x or higher.
- Disk Drives and SSDs in the IBM FlashSystems 501x, 503x and Storwize V5010E V5030E systems must have the appropiate Vendor ID (e.g. IBM-A050) and the approriate Part Number (FRU) displayed in the Vital Product Data (VPD) Drive Properties details in order to be supported. All of the IBM drives listed on this page are IBM Certified drives that meet these requirements for full support on these IBM FlashSystem and Storwise models.
